My Husband’s Wife

Just when I thought I had this story figured out, it punched me in the face.

My Husband’s Wife by Alice Feeney is an absolutely bonkers psychological thriller that grabbed me from page one and never let go. At its core, this story is about marriage, obsession, identity, and the dangerous lies people tell both to others and to themselves. The plot spirals around tangled relationships, buried secrets, and shifting truths. I never once felt sure I knew where things were headed.

I was suspicious of everyone. Every chapter seemed to peel back another layer, only to reveal something even messier underneath. Just when it felt like the story might be wrapping things up a little too neatly - a final, head-spinning twist landed that completely recontextualized everything that came before it.

Do yourself a favor and go into this one with as little information as possible. The less you know, the bigger the jaw-dropping payoff.

The audiobook is a standout. Bel Powley does most of the heavy lifting and is riveting throughout, while Henry Rowley and Richard Armitage add even more depth and tension. All three performances shine.

This is a must-read (or must-listen) for fans of domestic suspense and psychological thrillers who like their stories twisty, unsettling, and just a little unhinged. Huge thanks to Macmillan Audio for the complimentary early listen. My Husband’s Wife is out January 20. Trust me, you’re going to want to talk about this one. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Invasive Species

The neighbor everyone ignored is done being ignored.

Invasive Species by Ellery Adams is an off-beat, often funny horror novel with serious suburban creep factor. Set in the 1980s, it follows a quiet neighborhood shaken when reclusive Mrs. Smith, who’s been unseen for years, decides it’s time to re-enter society and wreak havoc. And reclaim her monstrous power.

Told through multiple POVs (including the monster’s), this fast-paced story shines thanks to Jill, a sharp and kind 12-year-old who senses something is very wrong, and Una, the family’s Icelandic housekeeper who still believes in the old ways. Their bond and their determination to protect the town’s children gives this horror story real heart.

I loved the suburban horror, 1980s vibes, and a monster who gets her own POV.  If you like fast-paced, slightly unhinged horror with dark humor and heart, put this on your radar. This is a layered, darkly funny, and wildly entertaining story. I loved every minute of it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thanks to @htpbooks and @netgalley for the ARC. It’s out April 14. Add it to your tbr list now.

QOTD: What’s creepier: the monster you see coming or the one hiding in plain sight?

Inside Man

What happens when a dead snitch, a serial killer, and a domestic terror plot are all connected?

Inside Man by John McMahon puts us right back into the thick of things with the FBI’s PAR unit. I’m thrilled to have this crew together again.

Gardner Camden is now running the show. He’s still the same hard-charging, brilliantly quirky (and clearly neurodivergent) investigator fans will remember. Gardner can get so wrapped up in puzzles, patterns, and microscopic details that he occasionally forgets basic manners, but that’s part of what makes him so compelling. His mind is always ten steps ahead, even if his social filter lags behind.

When the team’s confidential informant on a major case turns up dead, Gardner and the PAR unit scramble to find another way inside a dangerous radical militia group planning something big. That investigation takes a dark turn when they uncover what appears to be a serial killer targeting women. Suddenly, everything is connected or at least it might be. The race is on to figure out how their dead snitch ties into a possible series killer, stop the murders, and dismantle a looming domestic terror plot before it’s too late.

This story is packed with interwoven threads, sharp twists, and escalating tension. McMahon keeps the pace fast and the stakes high. I really enjoyed how the seemingly separate cases slowly snap together into a much bigger picture. On audio, Will Damron does excellent work bringing both the characters and the urgency of the story to life.

Even though this is the second book in the series, it works perfectly well as a standalone. A big thank you to Macmillan Audio for the early listen. Inside Man is out January 13. Add it to your tbr list! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

QOTD: Do you prefer crime thrillers with one tight central case or stories with multiple threads that slowly snap together?
