Thank you Simon & Schuster Audio for the gifted book.
Girl in Ice is a departure from my usual mystery and thriller reading. This is more sci-fi lite. I even saw one reviewed say it could be considered magical realism. By either genre’s standards, it’s a darn good story.
Val is a professor of linguistics specializing in dead Norse languages. She is grieving the death of her twin brother, a climate scientist who died of an apparent suicide while working on a remote island off the coast of Greenland.
Val receives a call Wyatt, her brother’s former colleague, asking to make the long journey to Greenland. He’s found a young girl out on the ice. She speaks an unknown language and Wyatt needs Val’s help communicating with the girl. Dispute her anxiety and fear, Val agrees to go. Meeting this girl with the strange language is enticing, but Val will also have the opportunity to try unravel the mystery of Andy’s death. She never believed the suicide story.
Val must unlock the secrets of the mysterious girl’s language before it’s too late-not only for this strange girl but also for millions of others.
Like in the real estate business, this is all about location, location, location. Author Erica Ferencik really captures the atmosphere and brutal and desolate beauty of the Arctic Circle. I love when a book’s setting can take me to a new and unique location and this one really delivers. Vivienne Leheny’s narration is top notch. This is an entertaining escape to an otherworldly destination. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
