Philomena McCarthy is a young and ambitious police officer with the Metropolitan Police in London. She and her partner are called to a domestic disturbance to find their victim, Tempe Brown, refusing to press charges against her abuser, Darren Goodall. Goodall, who was having an affair with Tempe, is a decorated police officer himself. Philomena’s boss directs her not to pursue investigating Goodall, but Philomena knows Goodall is a bad man and a dirty cop. Philomena and Tempe quickly become friends while Philomena tries to find other evidence against Goodall. Soon, Philomena’s job is in jeopardy because of Goodall and she slowly discovers Tempe is not exactly who she seems to be.
There is a lot going on in this book. Besides a possible dirty cop and a new friend with secrets, there’s also family drama with Philomena’s father. Author Michael Robotham makes it all work somehow. I thought the story slowed down in a few spots, but it still kept me listening. Narrator Katy Sobey did a terrific job. This is a solid blend of police procedural, psychological thriller, and family drama that was very entertaining. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
QOTD: what are you currently binge watching? I finished the second season of Bridgerton last night so I need a new show.
