The Note

Author: Alafair Burke
Narrator: Catherine Ho
Publisher: Random House Audio
Year: 2025

Long time friends May, Lauren, and Kelsey get together for a girls weekend in the Hamptons. It should be a weekend of sun, fun, food, and drinks. But the seemingly harmless prank of leaving a note on a stranger’s car turns their lives upside down.

Alafair Burke delivers an enjoyable thriller that looks at toxic female friendship, race, and the intense scrutiny of social media. When the prank leads to a missing man, the friends decide to keep quiet and not to get involved. May, a former prosecutor, just can’t let it go and soon the trio are in the middle of a police investigation. Honestly, the three friends aren’t the most likable characters. Lauren’s personality was a bit wooden. Kelsey is a little over the top as a rich, spoiled daddy’s girl. May was sanctimonious at times, but her character had the most depth. Narrator Catherine Ho does a good job differentiating the three friends.

Check this one out if you like multiple points of view, a good pace, building tension and suspense, and a complex plot filled with twists. This was an entertaining thriller that kept me guessing until the end. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

QOTD: do you like playing pranks on people? I’m not a fan.
